mass timber home project made of nail-laminated timber
Connecticut | USA
The Guilford Demonstration Building is the first of its kind on the U.S. East Coast: an innovative timber construction built entirely with welded-wood nail-laminated timber (wNLT) – a multi-layer mass timber building method in which the wall elements are connected using the lignin adhesion effect created by LIGNOLOC® wooden nails.
The structure of the home is based on wNLT elements. These are adjacent solid wood sections that are held together by LIGNOLOC® wooden nails. When shot in with BECK pneumatic nailers, the wooden nails bond permanently with the surrounding wood through lignin adhesion – entirely without full-surface gluing or metal. This allows nail-laminated timber elements to be produced cost-effectively, building on construction techniques widely established in the USA.
