The HasleTre office building in Oslo demonstrates how circular timber architecture can be realized using fully metal-free fastening solutions. Designed as a demountable and reusable timber structure, the project relies on LIGNOLOC® wooden nails to create mono-material components with a harmonious, all-wood aesthetic.

 

Interiors in mono-material timber construction

The building's interior views illustrate the consistent implementation of a mono-material timber architecture: walls and ceilings are made entirely of wood and were fastened using LIGNOLOC® wooden nails. This metal-free wood-to-wood connection not only creates a calm, warm visual appearance but also enables clean material separation – an essential cornerstone of HasleTre’s circular construction concept.

Uniform wooden surfaces thanks to metal-free fastening

The stairwell clearly demonstrates how metal-free fastening influences the overall design: LIGNOLOC® wooden nails ensure a seamless wooden surface without visible disruptions caused by metallic screws or nail heads. The result is a pure, high-quality interior finish that significantly reinforces the project’s architectural clarity.

Mono-material timber façade without thermal bridges

From the exterior, the pine timber façade is visible, with all panels fastened entirely using LIGNOLOC® wooden nails to avoid thermal bridges. The result is a uniform, calm façade structure: free of metal, mono-material in design, and engineered for disassembly and reuse. Across the overall project, the use of LIGNOLOC® enabled a reduction in steel consumption of approximately 80%.
