In southern Norway, the Viking Stave Church in Odda has brought to life an exceptional architectural project: centuries-old craftsmanship combined with modern fastening technology.

The structure is the first stave church of its kind in generations, combining traditional timber construction with contemporary fastening methods. Time-honored craftsmanship is united with modern connection systems. All fasteners – both inside and out – were selected to enhance structural durability, support the recyclability of materials, and preserve the building’s historic appearance.

The central focus of the construction planning was to merge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fastening solutions. Inside, LIGNOLOC® wooden nails were used to create pure wood-to-wood connections and minimize the risk of splitting. The exterior façades, including those of the adjacent cabins, were fastened with SCRAIL® nail screw fasteners, whose black-oxidized surface contributes to a sleek overall appearance.

Since the Middle Ages, stave churches have been an integral part of Norway’s architectural heritage. The new build in Odda draws on this centuries-old tradition while reinterpreting it for the present day. The distinctive timber structure combines the characteristic construction details of historical models with the functional requirements of a modern event venue.
