Tanzschule am Eichberg

Wieck a. Darß | Germany

On the edge of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park in Germany, the Tanzschule am Eichberg blends traditional craftsmanship with a clear, contemporary architectural language.

In the village of Wieck a. Darß, a building has been created that unites respect for nature, craftsmanship, and movement. The new dance school was designed as a classic timber hall in the style of a barn, blending seamlessly into the ensemble of the listed Old Forester’s House from the early 20th century. The simple, elongated building follows regional architectural traditions and integrates harmoniously into its surroundings. Its striking black façade is made from Shou Sugi Ban timber –charred under fire and treated with linseed oil. The extravagant cladding is sustainably fastened with LIGNOLOC® wooden nails by BECK.

Traditional techniques and contemporary fastening with LIGNOLOC® wooden nails

The south side of the building is clad with horizontal oak siding – traditionally charred using the Shou Sugi Ban technique and treated with linseed oil. This finishing method not only gives the façade its distinctive deep-black color but also increases its resistance to weathering. The cladding was fastened with LIGNOLOC® wooden nails by BECK, enabling pure wood-to-wood connections and supporting the project’s overall sustainable concept.
